Heading Out? 4 Ways To Avoid a Hangover

We are big believers in the importance of letting your hair down every now and then - even with the consequences the next day! Thankfully there are a few things you can do to help avoid, or at least diminish the dreaded hangover. Here’s our top tips…

  1. Opt. For Clear Liquors – Not all liquors are created equal. Certain alcohol beverages contain congener, a chemical that can contribute towards hangover symptoms. Avoid tequila, cognac and bourbon, which are high in congeners. Instead, go for vodka, white rum, and gin which are lower in congeners. Our favourite is Bulldog Gin, which was established by one of our founders, Anshuman Vohra.
  2. Reach For More Than Water – Alcohol is a diuretic, which can cause dehydration. Drinking a HALO before, during, and most importantly, after a night out will keep you hydrated and will replace the electrolytes you lost as a result of the alcohol – and those dance moves! "Water is fantastic," explains HALO Chief Wellness Adviser Don Saladino, "But we also need a high-quality salt to help restore a lot of what the body has lost." Along with its powerful electrolytes, HALO fuels your body with vitamins and minerals, which can aid its recovery. Having a bottle before you go to sleep will help you get a better night's sleep and have you feel that little bit fresher the next morning.
  3. Go To Sleep – Ever wonder why you’re grumpy and mad the morning after a night out? Alcohol impairs both sleep time and quality, which means your body – already exhausted from a nocturnal adventure – isn’t getting the rest it needs to recover. This leaves you vulnerable to fatigue and irritability. Before you snooze though, be sure to grab a glass of water or a bottle of HALO so you can stay hydrated. HALO also fuels your body with vitamins and minerals, which can aids for its recovery. Having a bottle before you go to sleep will also help you get a better night's sleep.
  4. Eat A Hearty Breakfast – Hangovers can also be a result of low blood sugar levels. While this is not a major cause of a hangover, it may contribute to some of its well-known symptoms, such as weakness and that mind-splitting headache. HALO Adviser and Nutritionist Keri Glassman, M.S., R.D. suggests incorporating three healthy items the morning after to help get you back on track: eggs, bananas, and ginger.
